crashes ubuntu firefox
under vista slight hang
Well, I'm seeing a major hang here on windows, hanging for at least for more than a minute.
It seems to be related to the windows media player plugin. When I disable that plugin, then I don't get the hang.

My guess is that you're also crashing because of some plugin. Does breakpad come up? Do you have a breakpad id of the crash?
You could try disabling the plugin one by one to see if that fixes the crashing.
Running in safe mode seems to hang the Fx 3 browser but not crash it
So can it be an extension thats crashing it?
But doesnt seem to explain that it runs just fine under Firefox 2 and my extensions in Fx 3 are a subset of the extensions in Fx 2
I will try disabling one by one
I was talking about a plugin that is causing the crash.
Look under Tools->Addons->Plugins.
got it
disabling the windows media player totem 2.22.1 plugin seems to not crash the
browser and allow for normal step execution

thanks for all your help Martijn
No problem.

From bug 378911, it seems like this is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513744

I'm duping this against bug 412333, that seems to be the same issue.
