Firefox used to have a problem where bookmarks (specifically in the bookmarks toolbar) would not update their favicon when a new one was available on the server. This was recently fixed and seems to be working well in the Firefox 3 builds.

However, if a site's favicon goes away, the old favicon lingers around. Therefore, if you purposely remove the favicon for your own site and then click on your site's bookmark in the bookmarks toolbar, the old favicon persists. It should go away so that the favicon (or lack thereof) associated with the bookmark is always representative of the latest state of the website.

I've found that even deleting the bookmark, restarting the browser and then adding it again once the favicon has been removed on the server side doesn't get rid of the old favicon.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
See details section for repro steps.
Actual Results:
Favicon going away on the server side doesn't make it go away in the bookmarks toolbar (or likely elsewhere).

Expected Results:
If the favicon goes away on the server side, it should go away in the bookmarks toolbar as well.

Sites without a favicon can get stuck with the error (exclamation) icon if they ever fail to load, which I believe is another reason to fix this.
I agree.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
