Steps to reproduce problem:
1. Click on an http: link to a blog that does not end in a /
2. Watch it redirect to the / version, but using https:
3. Get mixed-content warnings (depending on browser and preferences)

Not the same thing as bug 435368. It shouldn't be redirecting to HTTPS in the first place.
