WFM on firefox 2
Note that as of firefox 3 the bookmarks are now stored in places.sqlite. HTML bookmarks must be imported using the Library under Bookmarks menu > organize bookmarks, then use the Import and Backup > Import from HTML

I use Firefox 3.0.3 on Slackware Linux 12.1 and I have a similar problem. When logged in as root the deafault bookmarks are there, not the ones I copied and pasted. But when logged in as a user, my copied and pasted bookmarks are there. I have not tried the 'Import from HTML' yet, I will do that, but why does it work for the user but not for the root?

exactly 3.x does not automatically import bookmarks.html unless you are creating a new profile, so this is actually invalid
