435780 - Can't enter input into focused form field on page load

On a variety of web pages (the given URL is an example of a page where this occurs), a field in a form is auto-focused on load, but when I type, nothing shows up in that field.  I have to click out of the field (unfocusing it) and click back into it (focusing it), I can type again.  Also, in addition to just typing text, tab keys, etc. don't work.  This problem used to happen in older versions but seemed to have been solved at one point.  It's back again, though.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter the address of a web page that has a auto-focused form field
2. Try typing
Actual Results:  
Nothing... it won't allow me to enter text or tab to another field.

Expected Results:  
I should have been able to enter text or tab to another field.

Firefox 3.0 RC1 on OS X 10.5.  No enabled plug-ins.

Works for me on both of the following sites with auto-focus functionality:
http://www.bankofamerica.com
http://www.gmail.com

Tested on a fresh profile with no addons enabled.

It's not a consistent problem.  Most of the time it works, but sometimes, it won't.  A field will be selected but I cannot enter any input until I un-focus the field by click elsewhere and then focus it again by clicking on it.

Seeing something similar in 3.5.x on the mac, where a field will have focus, and clicking in and out of it (or switching tabs) will move focus around as far as field highlighting is concerned, but it won't take any input. Seems to happen about half the time on certain sites (which unfortunately are on an intranet, and not MoCo's :)

Selecting a menu (though choosing something isn't necessary) fixes it.

What debugging can I turn on to pin this down?

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.10 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
