People

Details

(Keywords: regression)

seen with 3.0rc2build1 on Linux and Win XP

-Clean profile and system without Flash installed
-Visit a page with flash movie content
-Get notification that Adobe Flash player must be installed
-Follow dialogs that install and require restart (says the plugin is installed)
-Visit the Flash video content page again

tested results:
The plugin is not found and Plugin finder suggests installing it again

expected results:
a) plugin finder suggests manual install
or
b) Plugin finder actually installs it as it says it did

this wasn't present in rc1... manual install was required and suggested.
Flags: blocking-firefox3?
this should be fixed when https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433592 is fixed :)

Maybe this bug is a dupe of Bug 416396
Pretty sure that's it's a straight dupe, yes.

This is on XP as well? XP should be fine with an XPI, no?

I don't think it's an exact dupe of 416396. That one is about having to manual install. This is different with the loop of plugin not found, auto-install, "says plugin installed", restart suggested, do it, plugin not found. However, whatever work is being done to fix 416396 and/or 433592 may likely make this wfm or invalid. I'll un-dupe if it's not fixed in rc2build2.
Comment 0:

"seen with 3.0rc2build1 on Linux and Win XP"

Is that a typo?
I just tested it myself on rc2build1, Windows XP is affected.
oh, we're not doing a rc2build2 for linux or windows?

This is a blocker imo. The endless loop is a terrible experience. Unless someone knows to manually install flash player or clicks a link/button on a site that directs them to the manual install page, the user will not get flash.

There's a workaround on Windows. Just download the pulg-in install exe file and install it from there. It's the only workaround I can think of for now
DId you also test with the current XPI on RC1 ?
The xpi may have changed...
Tracy, please go back and read the bugs Carsten and I linked to.

Right now due to bug 433592 PFS is serving an XPI that can't be installed due to changes we made in how XPIs install themselves. The solution to that bug will be telling users to go and download Flash from Adobe, and that's a Firefox 3.0 blocker already.

I duped this against another bug which is about getting an XPI back onto PFS which *can* be installed. It is clear from bug 416396 comment 68 and onward that this is a straight dupe; bug 416396 comment 72 also mentions that because we're not going to tie our shipping schedule to getting a new XPI from Adobe, the blocker is to tell users to manually install (which is bug 433592).

Re-duping.
