Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0

System:

* Windows XP SP3 with all patches
* Firefox 3.0rc2

Wasn't sure where to file this, so placed it under 'General' as it affects more than just keyboard navigation.

Whether using the vertical scrollbar on the right side of the window with a mouse or simply using the up/down arrow keys, trying to scroll on the main page of http://www.tuaw.com is painfully slow, and the CPU spikes to 100%.

Note that while on other sites such as the following link:

http://blog.voipsupply.com/asterisk-news/101-things-you-can-do-with-asterisk

(chosen just because it's a long page) scrolling is much smoother, simply moving the vertical scroll bar up/down rapidly can easily make the CPU spike to 100% as well, though the user experience does not suffer in this latter case.

Note this occurs whether smooth scrolling is enabled or disabled (no noticable difference to my eye).

I have tried creating a new profile, running in safe mode, all to no avail.

As Firefox 2.x (on Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.4.x/10.5.x) did not exhibit this, and from a user's experience point of view this might make FF3 appear slower/worse than FF2, I figured I'd best report it. No clue if we're dealing with a badly structured site, but again, FF2 had no issues with this site.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create new profile (firefox.exe --ProfileManager) for completeness
2. Run FF3.0rc2 and visit http://www.tuaw.com
3. Scroll up/down on page
Actual Results:
Scrolling went extremely slowly/choppy and the CPU spiked to 100% until you stopped scrolling.

Expected Results:
Smooth scrolling with CPU utilization not spiking to the point where the user experience is affected.

Again, if there's any additional information I can provide or anything I can do, please do not hesitate to ask.

Disabling the background the content seems to be scrolled without problems. So I think this is a DUPLICATE of Bug 361754, as stated by Daniel Gross in Bug 361754 comment 12
