User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux ppc64; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060604 Firefox/3.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux ppc64; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060604 Firefox/3.0

I built RC2 from source for a PPC machine (despite 64-bit capability, the OS and the Fx build are 32-bit) running Ubuntu Gutsy. None of the source was modified in any way, and the only build option I used that was out of the ordinary was --disable-javaxpcom. If it's relevant I can post my .mozconfig.

Is it possible to get rid of the go/star button? I never use them and want them gone. This was a trivial task in Fx 2.0 (set browser.urlbar.hideGoButton to true). Fx 3.0 completely ignores that preference. The "Customize..." window cannot remove it (it wants the whole URL bar).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set browser.urlbar.hideGoButton to true
Actual Results:
Nothing happens.

Expected Results:
Go/star button should disappear.

I thought this might be a conflict with Phoenity (which had a problem with the Go button in Fx 2.0), but it occurs with the default theme as well. This happens is safe mode, so it can't blamed on any extension or theme conflict/bug/Fx 3 incompatibility.

Version: unspecified → 3.0 Branch
A userChrome.css with the line

#go-button, #star-button {
  display: none !important;

should do the trick.

Thanks! But shouldn't browser.urlbar.hideGobutton carry on the preference (perhaps a browser.urlbar.hideStarButton for the star button)? Setting about:config preferences is easier than editing preference files directly (and doesn't require knowledge of CSS and/or JavaScript).

There is no browser.urlbar.hideGoButton anymore, and creating it (as a boolean) has no effect, regardless of its value. This is true of both 3.6.12 and 4.0b6.

Perhaps this is handled by a different preference setting now, but I didn't see anything under browser.urlbar that would fit (though I didn't research everything).
