User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0 Build Identifier: The default operating system when requesting help should be something like "unknown". It is confusing when a non-computer person skips that field and you are offering support for Windows and they run a Mac. Reproducible: Always
We've debated this one before. Ideally we want this field to not be prepopulated, but still force the user to make a choice. If we have it as unknown by default I believe people will be more inclined to ignore the field than if it's showing an incorrect OS in the first place. I'm definitely for trying to find a way to force a selection other than the prepopulated one. I could also make the top entry "choose your OS..." see how many people leave it at that.
I am for the "Choose your OS.." option. I think people would be less motivated to skip it. And that way we know if they do. If we see that we can ask "What's you operating system?"
Forcing them to choose puts us in a worse place. If someone doesn't know, they can just choose a random one.
Forgot to mark this fixed. First line is now "Choose your OS..." which is selectable for people who don't know what it means.
