Error Msg: AUS: Update XML File Malformed (200)
Dialog Box directed to download Firefox 2

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.

Expected Results:
Should have checked for latest version of Firefox3
I see something similar. Starting from Firefox 2.0.0.14 I am trying to force an autoupdate by doing the following:

1. Go to help meny an select "Check for updates...."
2. Little update widget starts spinning away...
3. Eventually get error message: "AUS: Update XML File Not Found (404)"

I am running Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/2008040413 Firefox/2.0.0.14

I am inside a firewalled environment and have to tunnel out for updates (automatic proxy config script).

I have only two add-ons:
+ Delicious Bookmarks 2.0.58
+ IE View 1.3.7
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
I *just* downloaded Firefox 3.0, and got this problem. I had experienced a similar error around Beta 2 or so, but it was eventually resolved.

Firefox 3 RC 3, which I had been using before did *not* have this problem.

setting to critical as this kinda messes up getting to a download record :(
Severity: normal → critical
Similar problems in bug 312661 and bug 390746. The main reason it is seen now, might be that the download server is overloaded. Not particularly surprising.

Note this doesn't have any influence on the download record, only FULL downloads are recorded.
The rationale in comment #4 makes sense :-). However, it might be nice if the error messages were a little more 'user friendly' than

"AUS: Update XML File Not Found (404)"
"AUS: Update XML File Malformed (200)

My first thought was "why is Australia sending me a message about XML?" ;-)

But seriously, a more user friendly message would be helpful....., with the tech details buried nearer the end.....
I would second the notion that its probably a server issue more than a Firefox 3 specific issue. I downloaded Firefox 3 this morning around 10 EST, Checked for Updates, and had no issues. Now, I'm getting the error:

AUS: Update XML File Malformed (200)

I'm running: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0
