(Keywords: crash)
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier: Firefox 3 Download Day
I downloaded the Firefox 3 setup and installed it. I clicked finish with the box checked to automatially launch Firefox 3. It hangs for a second then flashes a blue screen basically saying that theres and error and it's restarting. Upon restart I click to open Firefox 3 and nothing happens. It just hangs there and the "my computer is doing something" light is flashing but nothing ever opens. While transfering files to an external harddrive, in particular the backup files from my wordpress blog site, the blue screen would happen again and a forced restart. I tried to restore to an early point on my system and in the middle of that I get the blue screen as well. I cannot use Firefox 3 or restore it to an earlier version. I'm stuck on IE right now with my only thoughts looking at formatting and reinstalling windows.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download, Install, and launch causes it to blue screen and crash.
2. Restoring system to an earlier point in the week causes blue screen and crash.
3.
Actual Results:
I got on bugzilla.com to file a bug.
Expected Results:
Installed correctly and let me continue with my obsession with the internet.
It just simply crashed after I installed it and opened it for the first time and now I cannot open Firefox or restore my computer to an earlier point.

Try uninstalling Firefox 3, delete the application installation directory (usually c:\program files\mozilla firefox\) and then reinstalling it.
btw: The statement "While transfering files to an external harddrive, in
particular the backup files from my wordpress blog site, the blue screen would
happen again and a forced restart." leads me to believe that there may be a general hardware problem on your system.

Firefox itself can not cause your OS to crash (Blue Screen) because Firefox is a userspace application but it may trigger a problem in your system.
This could the a kernel mode driver (graphic card driver, Firewall driver,...), it could be a OS problem or it could be a hardware problem (RAM ...).
The profile files are now damaged because the OS crashed in the middle of writing to it.
You can try to create a new profile and import the settings from the old broken profile but it will not help if your system is unstable.
Run the profilemanager to create a new profile :
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
The cause of the crash can be only analyzed with Microsoft tools (crash dump) but you get no support here in bugzilla and we can not help you with that.
Please use http://support.mozilla.com if you need additional help with Firefox (but not for help to repair your system)

The problem has progressed far beyond what it was from the initial crash when installing Firefox. I can no longer even start windows and 3 seconds later it crashes. I'm assuming the worst, a virus (not from Mozilla), that has now crashed through my system. I'm completing a full format and windows install and should be back on Firefox checking out the new version in no time!

I hope that you don't have a hardware problem.
I will mark this bug wfm because it's something else on your system that caused this and this is no bug in Firefox
