User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0 Normally when I start Firefox, it uses the Vista theme, like it should, but occasionally, it uses the XP theme. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: Start Firefox. Actual Results: XP theme is used Expected Results: Vista theme should be used.
Dave, any idea how this could be happening?
Component: OS Integration → Theme
QA Contact: os.integration → theme
There were some people in the MZ forums who were using the Windows Compatibility Mode settings to get Firefox to display the XP theme in Windows, so that's one way this could happen, though that doesn't explain "but occasionally", which I read as "intermittent"
I just looked a the User Agent part of the report I sent, and it's saying I have NT 5.1, which is XP, but like right now I have the Vista theme. And when I do Help > About, it says NT 6.0. So I'm guessing the problem is Firefox is somehow reporting the wrong OS.
Casey, could you export the following registry key and attach it to this bug? [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags 1. Open regedit.exe (you can do so by going to Start -> Run, typing regedit.exe, and clicking OK. 2. Select in the tree view on the left under HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags 3. Export the values by selecting File -> Export, type appcompat.reg, make a note of where the file will be save to or save it to your desktop, and click OK. 4. Attach the exported file to this bug. Thanks
I forgot to mention, I'm using Vista x64, so maybe its just a bug with 64 bit systems? I don't know if it matters what arch I'm using though...
Perhaps one of the shortcuts you use to start Firefox (desktop, start menu or elsewhere) has been set to run Firefox in compatibility mode. Right clicking and going to properties for the shortcut should have that somewhere (I'm not sure exactly where on Vista). It could be that running from the shortcut is starting in compatibility mode while startup by clicking on a URL link is not.
Nope, I checked all the shortcuts, none of them are in compatibility mode. The problem is intermittent. If I use the shortcut on my desktop, it'll have the Vista theme, but some other time it will use the XP theme.
There's nothing in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER reg that would cause this... could you export [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags and attach it to this bug as well just in case? Thanks
Nothing in either reg hive under AppCompatFlags. :(
