User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0
Whenever I close my browser, it forgets any login information I have provided
for any site (using the "save my password" option on each site). I have tried it on google, Wall Street Journal, and other sites. I close the window, it requires me to re-login to each site. Across the same browsing session, it stays logged in fine. I recently upgraded from FF2 and this bug did not start until after about 24 hours of use. Strange, huh?
Accept cookies - yes (no exceptions)
Accept third party cookies - yes
Keep until - they expire
Always clear my private data when I close firefox - no
Ask me before clearing private data - yes
After I reopen FF3, when I look at saved cookies they are shown, but they just don't seem to work.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log into a website and "remember my login info"
2. Close the browser
3. Try to go back to the website you logged into
Actual Results:
Websites requires login info again
Expected Results:
Should stay logged in (since I've told it to)
Sorry, I should have specified that.
Similar to bug #434226, with several differences (24 hour delay before bug observed, cookies are not wiped out when FF3 is closed.)
I can confirm that. Firefox 3.0 PL (from official .tar.bz2) on Linux, ran from a directory unpacked to $HOME. Firefoc 3 rc2 installed over 2.0.0.14 worked well, the problems started when I switched from rc2 to official 3.0. All the preferences are the same as above, cookies are kept, but auto login in new session doesn't work.

I can also confirm this bug. In all the dozen sites I visit every day which requires login, none of them keeps me logged in after I close Firefox and I re-open it.
The sites are:
http://www.xfire.com
http://www.last.fm
http://livejournal.com
http://mail.google/mail/
http://slashdot.org
And many more.

I solved the problem by quitting FF3, then deleting cookies.txt and cookies.sqllite files, and restarting FF3.

Problem is not solved with this method. You must remember that Firefox 3, in order to consume less bandwidth, remembers the current state of the webpages in the opened tab(s) and displays it "as it is". Re-loading the webpage will fetch it from the webserver differently if it requires you to be logged in.

Update:
Problem has apparently been solved with the 3.0.1 update. Most of the sites I visit are keeping login info, such as:
http://www.xfire.com
http://www.flickr.com
http://myanimelist.net
This bugzilla
I'd leave the ticket open for another month, and see if the issue is isolated to certain webpages or has been properly fixed in update 3.0.1
I've tried the 3.0.1 update and it has not solved the problem. Still does not retain login information.

I am having the issue also.
It started when i upgraded to 3.0.1
I try to log into live hotmail and firefox doesn't maintain logged in status
gmail and veoh also have this issue
Tried again with 3.0.2 and 3.0.3. No change. Still doesn't recall login information.
I read something on the mozillazine support site that indicated that recreating the Firefox profile would solve this problem. I tried it and it appears to have worked. Needed to copy over several files from the default profile.

anyone else try this? I'm not really keen on starting from scratch with a new profile

Yes, I tried it and it worked! Just export the bookmarks & write down the add-ons somewhere so you can reinstall them (dno if you can export/import such things). I had the problem with FF 3.0.3, then I switched back to 3.0, didn't help. And now it works again, recreating a new profile! w00t! hope it works for you too!

has anyone tried blowing away only the permissions.sqlite file (which contains the cookies)?

I have to confirm this bug. Deleting the sqlite files doesn't work and on 3.05 the problem now appears on a clean install on a new PC. New profiles doesn't solve it. Nothing solves it. I posted on the forum as well:

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.10 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
