441129 - launch of FF3 takes over 3 minutes every time I open it

since loading version 3, opening firefox means I can go brew up some coffee.  2.x versions were near immediate to open/ load; version 3 makes me think that it is taking memory dump after memory dump in the background, but no, there are no events of issues, no crash dumps, no indications as to what firefox was doing with my system resources.  I am tempted to start using ie7 until this is fixed, but that is not a good feeling.  my systems' memory is fine(this happens on both my laptop and my tower systems, ea w/ 1GB ram), my filesystem is clear, I've no trojan/ virus/ malware/ rootkits, FF3 is just painfully inefficient and slow.  What can I capture and upload to reflect the topography of this error?

If the problem only occurs after every cold start, this could be a duplicate of Bug 397993. In that case it depends on the amount of history, and keeping only a few days of history should help.

cold starts are bad, but the subsequent were just as bad, so I had gotten into the habit of leaving it open with one tab, so it wouldn't have the start up time.
I've backed off SP3(it auto installed without my explicit knowledge), then boot-defragged the sys files (sys internals' tool) and the drive as well. SP3 in both its install and uninstall seem to fragment the heck out of the pagefile. Not having SP3, having a defragged pagefile seem to help a good bit.  FF3 and SP3 do not seem to play well.  It does much better on SP2.

Whome ver believes operating in Safe mode is a viable user experience, get out more...  I have moved to Win7 and the latest FF3.xx and have not seen this issue... nice to see action after 26 months... guess it can be closed...
