Failed to Connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at login.yahoo.com.

Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

    * Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. enter www.geocities.com in the address bar
2. it happened with a google api website yesterday too.
3. restarting the browser didnt help.
Actual Results:
i am on the second tab of my browser and i enter www.geocities.com. i can get into my yahoo mail account without problem, but when i enter www.geocities.com, it gives me the above message and changes the address bar to:

https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.src=sbs&.done=http%3A%2F%2Fgeocities.yahoo.com%2Fgcp%2F

Expected Results:
when i hit refresh, it still doesnt work. i have to use a different browser. it works with seamonkey.

it should go to the geocities site or maybe ask me to login ???
Its not the problem related to Firefox. There is problem in Network connection, so it was giving Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at login.yahoo.com.

Well for the second problem you must give more details.

hi, i know it seems like a connection problem, but it happens all the time and it works on other browsers at the same time from the same machine. try to reproduce it on your browser with the exact steps below? it seems to be some sort of problem handling https protocol???

1. enter www.geocities.com in the address bar
2. it happened with a google api website yesterday too.

It's happening with many, but not all websites (e.g., google.com, yahoo, citibank), and is not a connection problem. What it appears to be is mishandling of page not found. First, the presumption should be that the URL is correct, especially if it was obtained from a live link. Here's how I think lack of response should be handled: continue to try and establish contact, and re-open the previous page in a separate tab. That way, one can continue from where one left off, and simply close the failing tab at will. Most of the logic is already there; I've noticed that the third re-try sends me back from whence I came.
Address Not Found
Firefox can't find the server at bugzilla.mozilla.org (among many other slow-to-respond servers).

This bug also applies to at least Windows 2000 and XP; appears on systems with and without the NoScript, PDF Download, Clear Cache, Customize Google, DownThemAll! and FoxyTunes extensions; and has been confirmed by many users (see above and the many dups of this bug).
This "unconfirmed" bug is evident both with all extensions disabled and in "safe" mode!
The Firefox IPv6 implementation is seriously broken. Specifically, it can't handle slow response. Disable it for improved performance. This also applies to the many bugs marked as duplicates of this one and several others.
The problem is not, as stated at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+cannot+load+web+sites+but+other+programs+can, that "Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) can cause connection problems on some Internet connections." but that the Firefox IPv6 implementation is not backward compatible with IPv4 (which most of the world still uses).
Firefox does not implement IPv6 itself, it uses standard DNS and socket APIs that happen to support IPv6. How do you know this problem is related to IPv6?
Reporter, are you still seeing this issue with Firefox 3.6.9 or later in safe mode? If not, please close. These links can help you in your testing.
