Verify that you are taken to a page with the [Login|Register] links at the top, instead the contextual ( after login ) menu.  I was able to verify that the session is alive and the user is in fact logged.
When you reload the page, the status should update as expected. We are currently having a few problems with our cache infrastructure, leading to some pages not being refreshed the way they should. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for filing a bug.
