On Mac, Cmd+left is not a shortcut for the Home key, but it is an editing shortcut that moves the cursor to the beginning of the line. It is true that the two Cmd+left shortcuts (move to beginning of line, go back in history) conflict, but when is this a problem for you? The first meaning should only be in effect when focus is in a textbox, and you can always use another shortcut to go back in history (Cmd+[).

I have this problem on ebay, for example. When I fill out the description of the item I want to sell, and want to write something at the beginning of the current line, I instinctively hit cmd+left and land on the previous page. Since I was typing text into the text box, focus was in a text box. When I then hit cmd+right or cmd+] (to go forward to the description page) my description has vanished. Please try to reproduce. In the ui I can see that the shortcuts for "going backwards" and "going forwards" in history are cmd+[ and cmd+] respectively. Please remove the shortcuts cmd+left and cmd+right or give us a way to "disable" them. You could also remove cmd+[ and cmd+] and replace them with cmd+left and cmd+right, respectively, and update the ui. I will not be using a ff version which implements that. The way it is now is wrong, why would you want two shortcuts for the same function? I am a tech writer, so I use my keyboard a lot and I need consistent, non-conflicting keyboard shortcuts or a way to resolve conflicting keyboard shortcuts.

And with "this is also a shortcut for <Home> key (on Win)" I meant that cmd+left acts on a Mac like the Home key does on Windows. The Home key on Mac takes you to the beginning of the document, unlike Windows where it takes you to the beginning of the line.

Is the eBay item description textbox a rich textbox? If so, this is a dup of bug 342564.
