User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061004 Firefox/3.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061004 Firefox/3.0 I ran into this problem in the Beta versions of Firefox 3 and I have also run into it in the final release several times. When I change something with my bookmarks in the Bookmarks Organizer, the change is often not reflected in either the Bookmarks menu or toolbar. I can restart Firefox or my computer as many times as I want and it never updates the menu or toolbar. The changes are always there in the Bookmarks Organizer however, so I know it is saving them. The specific changes I am doing is moving bookmarks from the Bookmarks menu into a folder on the Bookmarks toolbar. When Firefox does this, the bookmarks act strangely and I have to reinstall Firefox entirely for them to work correctly again. When I add a new bookmark, it will show up on the toolbar or the menu, but doesn't show up in the Bookmarks Organizer. These new bookmarks are lost when Firefox is restarted, thus effectively eliminating the bookmarks feature of Firefox. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new bookmark and put it in the bookmark menu 2. Open the Bookmarks Organizer and create a folder on the bookmarks toolbar 3. In the Bookmarks Organizer, drag the bookmark from the menu to the folder in the toolbar Actual Results: The bookmarks menu and toolbar will now be unsynchronized with the Bookmarks Organizer. Expected Results: The bookmarks menu and toolbar should reflect the changes made in the Bookmarks Organizer.
The expect results are true. It does reflect the changes.

this is WFM. Reporter, please try in Safe Mode. If it works for you in Safe Mode, then it's most likely an extension that is the cause of the behavior you're seeing. Woody, please don't mess with the flags.

I tried Firefox in Safe Mode after confirming the problem was again occurring in Standard Mode. The bookmarks' behavior was fine in Safe Mode, so I returned to Standard Mode and disabled each extension and plug-in at a time. It seems to be that a plug-in I have for displaying PDFs was the cause of the problem. I have notified the developers of the plug-in.
Alex, thanks for following up. Verified WFM, per your comment

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
