User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0

Upon starting a new profile the window for firefox always opens at 820 wide with the window height appearing to differ depending on the height of the screen.
(My screen resolution is 1680x1050, ff size is therefore 820x1010).

This is not only narrow by modern screen standards but the current firefox startup page (mozilla.com/en-GB/firefox/3.0/firstrun/) is designed for a 1024 screen resolution. Having the window appear at a smaller size than the very first page the user will see makes firefox look amateur.

I feel the default width should either take account of the screen resolution in the same manner the height does, or failing that, default to 1024(ish) so that it fits the start page better

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start firefox with new profile
2. Observe window width
3.
Actual Results:
Window width is too small

Nothing happens for me. Try doing this with Firefox in safe mode, as it may be one of your plugins.
it does it in safe mode too. you did make a new profile first didn't you?

Firefox has opened at this size on a new profile for as long as I can remember and I've been using it since 0.5
Yeh I made a new profile. I've tried it agaim as well.
