Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0

When a user drags a tab from Firefox window 1 and drops it onto window 2, instead of moving that tab with its contents intact from window 1 to window 2, a new tab is opened in window 2 that loads the URL from the address bar of window 1.

This is broken and useless as most web applications lose all of their session data if you reload the page. It's just a replication of dragging and dropping the page icon from the address bar, and is confusing.

An analogy: If I carry a bucket of water from one fountain and drop it into another fountain I expect the water from the first fountain to accompany the bucket to the second fountain rather than for the water to vanish from the bucket and to have the first fountain pump more water over from the spring.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Drag a tab out of a Firefox browser window.
2. Drop the tab onto another Firefox browser window.

Actual Results:
Epic fail.

Expected Results:
Win.

This is not a duplicate of bug 113934, it is about a problem with the currently implemented solution to 113934.

That bug *is* about having drag-and-drop between windows work correctly. See Boris's comments in that bug and the fact that it blocks bug 126299.

(If the current behavior were considered a "fix" for that bug, that bug would have already been marked as FIXED.)
