I choose from a item in the drop down list on top of the window instead of using 
the history menu but mozilla does not implement my command and does not give an 
error message

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.browse several pages
2.choose a item in the drop down list
3.

Actual Results:  							

Expected Results:  	give an error message

i assume you mean the dropdown history button next to the URL field.
A kind of workaround is using the similar listing you find on the little arrow
on the back-button.
Apart from that, this seems to be a duplicate of bug 39923.
Please notify if this is incorrect.
