As a stopgap or alternative to fixing bug 444335 I'd like to suggest that after you post a new thread or post in an existing thread that it redirect you to the thread rather than the place where you made the posting from.

So right now, click Ask a new question -> get ask a new question form -> fill out -> back to ask a question form.

Replying to a thread -> fill out form, answer captcha -> back to replying to a thread form.

In both cases, we send the message that their posting failed but more importantly, we give them no indication on how to find their post, even if they wait a while.

(Yes I realize this is partly related to bug 445231 but fixing bug 445231 as proposed won't fix this issue as needed here.)

Instead, I'd like to redirect users to their thread, ideally with a note that says "Bookmark this page to get back easily or register to get e-mail notifications when someone replies." (If one-time notices are hard, having this message be permanent also works.) This gives users a great way to get back without having to register and will address at least the concern where people posting new threads don't see them as posted in the forum list.
Is this bug still valid, Cheng?
