1. downloaded FF3
2. went to download folder

requires Microsoft Windows 2000 or newer."

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. get an Microsoft Window XP, Media Center Edition, V2002, SP2 SYSTEM
2. download FF3
3. run "Firefox Setup 3.0.exe"
Actual Results:
got message: "Sorry, Firefox can't be installed. This version of Firefox
requires Microsoft Windows 2000 or newer."

Expected Results:
Expected an installation
This is not reproducible on Windows XP Home (SP3), so must be Media Center issue. Please delete the install file you have, and download again.
i just tried again with "Firefox Setup 3.0.1.exe" with the same results.

Setup.exe is putting out the message.

I have attached a PNG composit of my system properties and the setup message.
This sounds like it may be an issue with the installer compatibility setup. Could we have some else running this same system (Windows XP Media Center 2002) to try to verify?
Also, Dan, can you try updating the Windows version you have, with SP3, and any other updates, and try install again?
I am confirming that you are using http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-3.0.1&os=win&lang=en-US to download the install package from, correct?
If that does not correct the issue, change severity to Critical, as it totally prevents Firefox from working.
I downloaded using:

http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.0.1&os=win&lang=en-US

I will try to upgrade to SP3 soon.

Until then I will leave it to your digression whether to change the severity level to Critical. If it doesn't work for SP3 and the level hasn't changed, I will change it.
Ok, let us know when you update. Thanks.
I upgraded to SP3 as requested.
This had no effect on the installation failure.
Sorry.
I changed the severity to Critical.
Severity: normal → critical
This can not be critical because this is not crash or dataloss
and why do you reported this bug if you already found bug 444664 ?
You could at least mention the bug in this report..

Please attach do the same as bug 444664#c1
Severity: critical → major
Chances are this is a duplicate of bug 444664.

Please launch the mozilla-central installer and report back if you get the same error. Do not install it... just launch it.

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/
I originally thought this bug was dup of 444664, but the install kept failing and it didn't ring true.

Anyway i downloaded firefox-3.1a1pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/
excuted it and got the message:

      Sorry, Minefield can't be installed......

I think I saw that the patch for 444664 executes:
ReadRegStr $R8 HKLM "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion CurrentVersion"
so i encluded a screensnap of that value too.

CurrentVersion is equal to 5.1 on my system.
Sorry about that... I just landed that patch today so that build doesn't have it. It will tomorrow.
Dan, that patch should be out today, can you try again, with a new download?
Looks good, thanks. How will I know when it is incorporated?
When bug 444664 lands on the branch. The patch has a request for 1.9.0.2 so hopefully it will be included in Firefox 3.0.2
