User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1
I just got a new computer. Upon first downloading Firefox to it, I put 8 of my favorite websites on the Bookmarks Toolbar. Now, no matter how many times I try to save new websites to the Bookmarks Toolbar, they are not there after I close and then reopen Firefox. Only the original 8 remain each time.
I never had this problem on my old computer, where I also used the Bookmarks Toolbar.
What's up with this? It is very frustrating, since I use the Toolbar all the time.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. I go to www.websudoku.com or any website
2. I drag it to the bookmarks toolbar
3. It isn't there the next time I launch Firefox
Actual Results:
I have done steps 1, 2, 3 above over and over and I cannot get the website I save to be there the next time I open Firefox
Expected Results:
Well, until this new computer, any time I dragged a website there, it was there the next time I launched Firefox

Can you please try starting Firefox in Safe Mode (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode).
Also, try bookmarking by pressing Ctrl+D when you visit the website, then drag from the Bookmarks dropdown to your Bookmarks Toolbar

Not confirmed on Windows XP, suggest changing severity to Normal.
I confirm this on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121621 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.5. The issue just began occuring for me. I followed the suggestions in comment 1 and produced same results of restart Firefox with bookmarks are missing.

John and Linda, do you both still see this issue with Firefox 3.5.x?

Yes, no matter what update to Firefox I have, I can't save the bookmarks on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
I am not savvy enough to start Firefox in Safe Mode. Just the thought of that scares me. So I muddle along. It's been way over a year.
Got any solutions?

You don't need any savvy to start firefox in safe mode. Just go to start, All Programs, Mozilla firefox, Mozilla Firefox (safe mode), then click continue in safe mode in the dialog that pops up. Make sure you close Firefox before starting safe mode.

Without getting the asked information we cannot help you Linda. Nothing will get lost when you run Firefox in Safe Mode. Until we don't have more information I will close this bug as incomplete.
