Build ID: 2000070608 Steps to Reproduce: (1) Delete Users50 and mozregistry.dat (so you no longer have an account) (2) Load the browser (3) Choose File | New > Message The compose window appears as it should, and a second later, the account wizard appears. (4) Press Cancel in the account wizard. (5) Attempt to type a message in the body. Result: Not only can't you type, but you can't even set focus to the textfield...in fact, it doesn't even act like a textfield, but rather dead white space (no context menu, etc.) The symptoms here are similar to the "can't type in message when you switch to classic theme," except that I haven't switched to the classic theme in this session. Reproducible every time.

reassigning to ducarroz. Jean-Francois are you able to reproduce this? If you don't cancel the account setup but proceed to create an account, can you type?

I'm pretty sure there's an oldy moldy bug about this (using compose message before you've set up an account)... I'll look for it.

This is totally reproducible using jul6 commercial build NT 4.0, but is a rather invalid situation which we don't handle real well. The bug I was thinking of is a bug which mentions this situation in conjunction with other weirdness in the past when trying to back out of this using-mail-without-mail-account situation ... see bug #24665.

I agree that it is somewhat of an invalid situation, since most people wouldn't try to compose an email without first having an account set up. On that note, lowering the severity. I do agree, however, that we need to handle this much more gracefully. Why not just let the user fully compose the email and again request account setup when he/she tries to send it?

I don't think this is a duplicate. 42956 is a little ambiguous, but seems to say that we shouldn't open the Compose window at all if the user cancels the account wizard. Technically, we can still let the user type the email and then make them set up an account when they go to send it...they don't need an account just to type the email, really.
