Can't move certain emails to "Folders"

Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.14 (20080421)
If I try to move certain emails into "Folders," I get this error message:
The messages could not be moved or copied to folder 'xxx' because writing to folder failed. To gain disk space, from the File menu, first choose Empty Trash, and then choose Compact Folders, and then try again.
Needless to say, I've done all that. I still can't move them. Most emails move just fine, with or without attachments.
My inbox is slowly filling with things I want to move to files, but can't....
Also, I just got a new computer, and I suspect this problem is related to the fact that I couldn't find any useful instructions for importing your "mab" files into my new Thunderbird. You give instructions for how to import every kind of file but yours. As a result, I'm having to recreate my address book from scratch.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.It happens every time for CERTAIN emails....only. I can discern nothing that the "offending emails" have in common. The most recent example, if you can see my inbox, is from Patrick Williams. 23 July 08

Not a security bug, clearing flag (we can't see your inbox).
You'll probably get better traction on a solution from support, the problem isn't clear enough yet for a developer to know what to fix.

Can you place the steps to reproduce up? (comment #1)
I click on the email message and try to mouse it over into a Folder. It's the same thing I do to file all my email messages. Some move, some don't.
Just curious. Did you read my problem before you asked this question?
Am I supposed to report this bug elsewhere? If so, could you tell me explicitly where? The support page is no help at all.

Marnia, I did read your comment. You were vague in what you put up. "Steps to Reproduce:
1.It happens every time for CERTAIN emails..." is not how the steps to reproduce is to be used. You should have placed what you put in Comment #2 there.
So far as I understand this is your problem:.
You receive an e-mail, and wish to move it from the Inbox to another folder, something like "Work" (or whatever).
You try to click and drag the message into the folder, put it refuses to move.
Am I correct?
Can you please try starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.
These folders are in Thunderbird, correct? They are not external, like on a USB?
I do not know how to start Thunderbird in safe mode. Or what I would do thereafter. Could you break this instruction down for me?
Yes, the emails are in Thunderbird. Not on a USB. I received them from senders.
by the way, my Thunderbird spellcheck thinks every single word is misspelled, which makes it useless. It was doing this a few weeks ago and then it stopped. Now it has started again, and I have no idea what changed. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Make the shortcut you use to open thunderbird call "thunderbird.exe -safe-mode"
Then try the move as normal - this is just to make sure an extension isn't causing it.

=> incomplete for now with no further feedback.
Marnia, I think you will have better results through a support newsgroup or forum listed at http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/forums - they deal with these kinds of things frequently. Return to the bug if that route doesn't help.
AB import can be handled with importexport extension.
