Can you try to reproduce with the latest trunk? Bug 451164 fixed many of the incorrect error messages but it may have missed this one. Thanks

Firefox updates stop working if a second GlobalSign Root CA certificate is present (serial number 02:00:00:00:00:00:D6:78:B7:94:05, expires 28-01-2014). This applies to both automatic updates (which just never notify the user) and to the Help menu->"Check for Updates" which gives the message "Firefox could not be updated because: AUS: Update XML File Not Found (404)". The 2014 GlobalSign certificate is being used for issuing e-mail certificates and was distributed with Firefox 3 RC2. Firefox 3.0.9 comes with a different pre-installed GlobalSign Root CA certificate (serial number 04:00:00:00:00:01:15:4B:5A:C3:94, expires 28-01-2028). The 2014 GlobalSign certificate also cause a problem with loading websites like https://addons.mozilla.org . (Related problems with two GlobalSign Root CA certificates are in Bug 462210 and Bug 437608.) On my installation the "This certificate can identify web sites" trust setting is disabled for the 2014 GlobalSign certificate, as are all other trust settings. If I delete secmod.db from my profile, the 2014 GlobalSign Root certificate disappears from the Firefox certifcate Authorities list, both manual and automatic Firefox updates work again, and https://addons.mozilla.org successfully loads with 2028 GlobalSign certificate listed as the root of the Certificate Hierarchy. The 2014 GlobalSign certificate was added to my system when I installed Danish-government-sponsored Digital Signature software from digitalsignatur.dk. It is also available at http://secure.globalsign.net/cacert/Root.crt My system: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.9) Gecko/2009040821 Firefox/3.0.9 Windows XP Home SP3
