This concerns all versions of firefox that I've tried, 1-3.

When visiting one of the biggest online shopping sites, amazon.com, I've noticed that I've never been able to view any of the images.  I've even noticed that this occurs with some of my own images

What images? The book covers on that page? Works fine for me. (3.0.1 on Linux)

As far as blocking images, I checked tools>options, content tab, load images automatically is checked, and there are no sites listed under the exceptions.

I tried safe mode and it still won't load those images.

I'll try to post a screenshot after I submit this.

I have the same problem. All the same attempts at fixing too.

Safari can load the images, but sometimes does not load a site. Wonder if the two are related?  : )  

So, the quick fix, is using them both. 

I had no trouble with earlier Firefox versions.
I use Mac OS X 4.11. Moving to Leopard and Mac Pro in a week.

This works for me using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5

Does Firefox's safe mode or a new profile solve the issue? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+troubleshooting

I have had the same problem for several months. Images and buttons do not load on Amazon. Ditto in safe mode. Changing tools>options bar settings makes no difference. Tried all troubleshooting fixes. Works fine in IE. Amazon insists it works with "all browsers".

and you don't have an entry in tools/options/content/[x] Load images..\Exceptions and you already tried it with a new profile ?

But, works with new profile. Error is in file alphabetically after pluginreg.dat, but not in signon.sqlite.

Tip for restoring profile:

follow instructions to set up New Profile; go to profiles %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ ; copy New Profile into new folder; starting at the top, copy a few folders/files at a time from Old Profile into New Profile; check to see if problem has returned (go to firefox.exe -ProfileManager, select New Profile, open firefox), if problem has not returned, copy New Profile into new folder and repeat from "copy a few folders/files..." When the problem returns, your NEW New Profile is in the new folder.
This is a mass search for Firefox General bugs filed against version 3.0 that are UNCO and have not been changed for 200 days.

Reporter, please update to Firefox 3.6.10 or alter. Firefox 3.0 is no longer supported and is no longer receiving updates. After you update, please create a fresh profile, http://support.mozilla.com/kb/managing+profiles, and test to see if your bug still exists. If you still the bug, then please post a comment with the version you tested against, and the problem. If the issue is no longer there, please set the RESOLUTION to  RESOLVED, WORKSFORME.

No reply from reporter, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.12 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
