- I let camino do automatic update (from 1.6.1 to 1.6.3)
- it couldn't be completed due to permissions failure/missing permissions
- so I downloaded 1.6.3 and tried to drag camino application to applications folder -> same problem
- btw: I work with mac os 10.5.3 on mac pro
- I don't have the probs with other programs. I just get asked for identification and after having typed password I can do changes in appl. folder
- but camino doesn't provide this dialog of identification
(it should do so! this is my first request)
- I then started again my current 1.6.1 and toolbar icons only shows the back button. no forward, reload or stop buttons
- tabs are also gone
- and in the preferences window the tabs are gone as well...
it seems the update has taken place for some part...
(I am now using the 1.6.3 version after I have left it on desktop and not put in to application folder)
I am not sure about the permissions rights thing (I had done a permissions repair few days ago starting from CD (I am doing this every few months)
but at least the former/current version of camino should continue to work reliable...

Camino has absolutely no ability to influence the behavior of the Finder, which is what shows that dialog. You probably need to first throw away the version that is in Applications (which will prompt you for authorization), then drag the new version in. For whatever reason, Finder will allow that with authorization, but will not allow in-place replacement of apps if you don't own the old version. Feel free to file that as a bug with Apple. If that doesn't work, you have a deeper problem, and should run a disk repair utility.
As for your problems with 1.6.1, it sounds like your permissions issue caused some of Camino's resources to be deleted even though the app itself wasn't. Again, how the OS handles drag-and-drop replacement with insufficient permissions isn't something we can control.
Closing INVALID, since this is an OS issue.
