User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) Build Identifier: 3.0.1 While I was browsing firefox homepage using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1, it suddenly freezes and I had to restart my computer. It happens randomly on other sites as well. Im using Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 32bit. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Browse a site with loads of contents such as pictures and animations 2. Scroll down and click links randomly, hit backspace and do again 3. Say hello to freezes and crashes Actual Results: My computer freezes and it has to be reboot. Expected Results: It should revert back to the old version where crash and freeze never happens and pretty stable.
Freeze/hang and crash are not the same thing. But we can not do anything because Firefox can not freeze your system because it's a userspace application. Either one of your drivers, the system itself or the hardware is causing this. It doesn't matter if you get this only with Firefox, it's still not Firefox fault. -> invalid

I suspected it was my system that was causing this too. So, I tried using Opera browser and also Internet Explorer browser and see if it freezes. Surprisingly, using both those browsers, I never experienced any freeze or lock up while browsing firefox site. If Firefox browser cannot freeze system since its a userspace application, then how can you explain this phenomenon? Maybe Firefox was using something in my system that causing my system to freeze dead. If you can verify that this freezing thing doesn't happen to other system, then I will accept that it is my system/hardware configuration that is not friendly to firefox browser.

it doesn't matter. it isn't our job. if the system freezes, it's the os's fault. you can use windbg and the system verifier to investigate. do not reopen. just because N applications don't expose a bug in your system doesn't mean that the one application that does expose a bug in your system is to blame. it's still a bug in your system. each application behaves differently, but no matter what, only the system itself can crash or hang.
