version 3.0a2 (2008072822) from litmus https://litmus.mozilla.org/single_result.cgi?id=146782 Gary: "2 smtp accounts and i set one of them as the default, the default option is NOT honoured. it continues to try and send via the non-default account until i delete all other smtp accounts except the intended one" Wayne: is this bug 404393? - replying from local folder does not use default account if recipient of original is not a defined account? Gary: I don't think so... all my accounts were defined, as well as recipients... And i wasn't using a local folder.

Did you check that all the various "Outgoing Server (SMTP):" were set on "Use Default Server"? I think I had something similar a while back, but some of them were wrong (i.e. check main account setting dialog, and the individual identity dialogs).

Gary, comment 1, and this was in an otherwise "new" profile"? Jay, can you test?

(In reply to comment #1) > Did you check that all the various "Outgoing Server (SMTP):" were set on "Use > Default Server"? Oh, was about to comment a while ago but forgot, sorry... Thus, the answer to your question is, I couldn't really recall. What should the default option on "Outgoing Server (SMTP):" be? I'm quite sure it's not set as "Use Default Server" by default. Right now I'm testing on a new profile and as long as the individual settings per account are correct, then it works properly. Choosing "default" under the main SMTP server list then choosing the individual settings on each account doesn't really seem UI-friendly. Similar options at different places. Probably got me confused at that time of testing. Bryan, thoughts?

Works as intended for me. If I set an account to use a specific SMTP server, then it always uses that specific one no matter what the Default SMTP server is. If I set an account to use the Default SMTP server, then whichever SMTP server I chose as Default then that account uses the the Default SMTP server.

I think once you get into choosing default SMTP servers or mixing up SMTP servers per account it's going to be difficult to have a decent UI. We have this bramble of Identity and default SMTP servers that needs a bit of overall thought to get cleaned up. Not sure what the right path is to fix that. New account setups, using something like bug 422814 will have a different SMTP server setup correctly and assigned to it. This is a bit of a change from the existing account wizard that didn't allow for new SMTP servers when creating secondary accounts. I'm worried most about that default case, where a user has an SMTP server for each account, and I don't think this issue should be hit there. Though that doesn't mean this isn't still a problem, just seems like a larger one than the SMTP section of the account settings dialog.
