451581 - Allow adding duplicate bookmarks with Ctrl-D or Star button

Fx2 allowed you to do this, but Fx3 forces you to edit the existing bookmark instead.  You can still create a duplicate bookmarks by dragging, or copying and pasting (eg onto the sidebar, toolbar, library).

Note: I am defining duplicate bookmarks as those share the same url but can differ in other properties: Name/TItle, Tags, Keywords, Description.

Note: I originally filed one bug (See Bug 451318) which included several issues regarding duplicate bookmarks, but then broke it up into individual bugs which block that one.

I intentionally bookmark some web pages in multiple folders for various
reasons, so I would like to see this fixed.

I can confirm this bug. This is a regression from Firefox 2. I think the
importance/severity should be bumped up to major, or at least normal, as it represents a significant loss of functionality.

Not going to block the 3.1 release on this, as we really haven't seen a lot of complaints about it. Currently copying the bookmark is a workaround.

Adding the uiwanted keyword to get UX team to provide both the rationale for this change in 3.0 as well as possible alternatives. Maybe could have checkboxes in the folder tree?

the start is meant to be a global "switch" to tell "this is bookmarked/this is not bookmarked" so i see actual behaviour coherent with that

Per the workarounds for this, including the extension the reporter linked to, marking WONTFIX.
