http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/ is used as the namespace for "MozSearch" files, a pseudo-standard variant of OpenSearch used for shipped Firefox plugins. Someone was interested in knowing more so tried to load that page, and just got a 404. It would be nice if that URL could redirect to documentation about MozSearch on devmo (http://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_MozSearch_plugins).

An actual page at the namespace URI, which links to the documentation page, like the XUL namespace URI does, is vastly superior to a redirect. Sad as it is, people will load a namespace URI in their browser, then copy-paste where they end up and use that in their XML - see Yahoo's Media RSS, for which every single consuming application has to look for the namespace URI both with and without a trailing slash because they've bounced back and forth between whether they redirect and which way they redirect. This redirect is slightly less likely to produce that, but it's pretty damn cheap to avoid the problem.

This issue should have been taken care of by the fix for bug 670316, so resolving as FIXED.

If you find that the namespace URI still does not resolve, please reopen this bug.

However, if you disagree with this decision or you feel that the information about this particular namespace URI should be modified or updated, please file a new bug.
