Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1

FF 2.x and earlier printed fine to my HP LaserJet 2100TN. Any web page or range on the new version sends capital, overlapping characters with no relationship to the page text.

All other apps, including IE 7 with the same pages, print correctly.
I have:
--rebooted the computer
--rebooted the printer
--verified the printer settings through its Control Panel tabs
--sent the same pages to the non-PS driver on the printer

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install FF 3.x
2. Load web site
3. Send page or range or pages to printer
Actual Results:
The pages display fine, but print gibberish.

Expected Results:
Printed the actual text on the page, as IE-to-HP does.

This was immediate with the FF upgrade. No page has ever printed properly, while FF 1.x and 2.x worked fine.
I see a workaround in a FF forum at:

http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=eu&forumId=1&comments_parentId=99015

This does not solve larger problem or explain how FF lost the ability to print to PostScript laser printers, but it does allow me to print to an HP 2100TN. I have no other laser printers here to test.

FYI, the settings for this printer dialog in XP involve:
Open Properties dialog
Choose Advanced tab
Click Printing Defaults
In the pop-up, choose Paper/Quality tab
Click Advanced
Under Graphic, TrueType Font, click and choose Download as Softfont
Click Apply
Click OK on each of the three dialogs to exit and save settings

This lets you print from FF.

Because this eliminates printer features and slows printing, I set up a separate printer using the same driver but labeled just for FF with settings to override the printer fonts. I'd rather you guys fixed FF.
