User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404 Firefox/2.0.0.14 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.16 (20080708) Alert! Failed to connect to server incoming.yahoo.verizon.net. I get this alert about 75% of the time when I start Thunderbird. I have confirmed that I have a good connection to the internet each time this happens. After I click ok for this alert, my other identities immediately connect and download any mail on their servers. Some of my other identities use the same server as my default identity too, so I don't suspect any problems at their end. All my id's have their server settings set to check for new messages at start-up. I never have this failure when manually clicking get mail, or when Thunderbird checks for new messages every five minutes (as I have it set to) after the initial program start. I made no changes to my system hardware prior to the first time this happened. The program has been installed and stable for a year or more at least. I checked for and installed the latest update after the first couple weeks of this problem occurring, to no effect at all. I have no viruses or spybots etc. on my system. I have a clean registry, cleared recycle bin, temp folders, and a very healthy system in general. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start program 2.Wait and see if problem occurs. 3. Actual Results: See details. Expected Results: Thunderbird should open, then retrieve mail automatically. I covered everything in details. Let me know if you have any questions.

Gentlemen, I am both sorry and happy to report, that my problem has resolved itself. Just as it began, it ended. Without explanation. I had another issue that may or may not have been caused by the same thing. I would encounter an email dated 1969 I think. It would be caught by my junk folder, but when deleted, it would insert itself right back into the junk folder. I found reference to this online, and was advised to allow folder compression more frequently. Since I didn't allow it at all, I turned it on. Since then, I have only seen this problem once, and perhaps coincidentally, I have not experienced the problem I started this bug report over. Thanks for your interest in my problem. I hope my comment may help someone else resolve their problems, as others have helped me!
