Using july13 commercial build
The mail window start page is not loading (it seems to for the first session),
even after login dialog has been dismissed and IMAP INBOX loaded. (There's been
a bug for awhile where start page won't load until after login dialog dismissed
-- see bug #42421). Behavior changed with today's build where the start page
never loads.
1. Launch to mail window, default/first account is IMAP, password is not
remembered. Login to account, let folders be discovered. If start page loads,
continue to the next steps.
2. Leave the account expanded and exit netscape.
3. Launch -mail. Note the start page isn't loading.
4. Provide proper login and OK or otherwise dismiss the login dialog. INBOX
folder loads, but start page/message pane remains blank/transparent until you
select a message.
I also noticed that in many instances while logging in, the password dialog
would not dismiss if it was positioned over the thread pane. After login, I
could select messages in the thread pane behind it, but the password dialog
didn't go away until I brought another (maximized) window to cover mail window.

nominating nsbeta2 because it looks bad, it never displays start page, it's
annoying and potentially alarming to outside users to have the password dialog
not dismiss properly.

The Start Page is very important for PR2. However, two things:
1. This is assigned to Scott Putterman, and he's on vacation until next week. If
we don't have anyone to look at this, then we will have to live without the fix.
2. I just used the Mail Start page, and it works fine for me. Are we sure this
was not a temporary server issue? I could not get the Start page this morning
for 4.7 or Seamonkey, but it seems to be working fine now.
I don't think it was a server thing.

my mozilla build works fine (it doesn't try to load the start page). my
commercial build does load the start page and it sees this problem. I know the
start page is down right now so I think it's related and we'll probably end up
marking this worksforme once the server side fixes it.

Putting on [nsbeta2-] radar. Not critical to beta2.

Whoa...is this working for all or not. Just intermittent? Are we SURE we do not
want this on [nsbeta2+]?

If it turns out this isn't a server problem then I would definetly pull the beta
for this. It's a horrible first impression. Because no content is loaded into
the message pane, it captures whatever content is behind or in front of that
window. If you drag the window around it looks all corrupted.
Removing nsbeta2- and asking for reconsideration: NOTE there's a good chance
this is just a server problem and we won't have to fix anything here but if we
do it needs to be a plus I think.

Taking the [nsbeta2+] off, we need to know if this is a server side problem or
not first. Putting on [NEED INFO] radar.

This appears OK for me using july17 build, NT, mac and linux.
However, if this is indeed a server problem, can't we prevent against the
ugliness of the blank content/sticking login dialog in the case where the page
can't be loaded? It seems to me we should more gracefuly deal with such a
situation.

thanks laurel. It works for me too. I believe layout already has a beta bug to
try to handle this problem more gracefully in the future.
