See screenshot Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install 1.91 trunk 2. install a plugin like Quicktime 7.4.1 3. open addons manager > plugin tab 4. Verify the version number is displayed twice in the plugin name title. Actual Results: Duplicate version numbering in name Expected Results: Only one version number shown
This is pretty tricky to counter. Some plugins just include their version in their name, some do not. We could maybe remove any instance of the version string in the name string, but that could still fail or produce odd results.
This would likely need to be fixed via evangelism since the plugin includes the version number in the name as well as a version number. Anything to counter this would be extremely prone to error. For example, on Windows QuickTime is Name: QuickTime Plug-in 7.5 (861) Version: 188.8.131.52 Also note that there are plugins that include the term plugin as well as plug-in in the name and it would also be a decent thing to evangelize a common spelling for consistency.
What is the procedure to go about evangelising these sorts of things to plugin vendors?
