Details
If a summary file is dumped into thrash, mail should create a new summary file.
This is consistant with NS 4.7 running on MAC OS. But NS6 uses the thrashed
summary file unless one empties the thrash.
Steps to Reproduce:
1) Launch Mail
2) Click on a folder with more than 50 messages and wait till all message
headers are displayed
3) Exit Mail
4) Delete summary File for that folder by dragging it to thrash
5) Launch Mail again
6) Click on the folder again
7) Exit Mail and look for the summary file for the same folder
Expected: A new summary file should have been created for the message folder
Actual: No summary file is created, mail is still using the summary file you
thrashed before.
Reprodcibility: Always.
Note: This happens only on MAC OS.
Build Id: 2000-07-10-08 M17, Mac OS
Summary: Summary File still in use when thrashed → Summary File still in use when trashed

I don't think there's anything we can do about this - the client app doesn't
know that the mac os has moved the file into the trash - the file descripter is
still valid (plus we've still got the summary file open, I'm sure). You need to
empty the trash to really remove the file. Which you shouldn't be allowed to do.
I'd mark this wontfix.

I just tried it on Mac OS X 10.2.4 (Macho-O build 2003030703), and the *.msf
will be recreated automatically when it's missing, even when the old copy was
sent to the trash. So it's not an issue on OSX.
Since no development will be done for Mac OS 9 or earlier (let alone for System
7 where this was filed in !), can we close this as a WONTFIX ?
Support for mac classic is dead (especially so for system 7) -> WONTFIX
