don't know if this related to
Mozilla Scheduled Downtime - 09/11/2008, 7pm - 11pm PDT (0200 - 0600 09/12/2008 UTC)
but started to see a few reports on webmaster and I confirmed the problem...

Gerv apparently didn't tell anybody in bug 453652 that the new Hendrix changes required a new Perl module. I installed Captcha::reCAPTCHA from CPAN, and everything seems to be working now.

chofmann: for future reference, you can file this kind of thing in Server Ops and set the severity to blocker and it'll page the oncall sysadmin.
We're also apparently missing monitoring on this site. Reed just added that, too.
