Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1 longtime ff-er, first time tb-er. i've had attachments that open and they have that thunderbird icon when all is well and it can be opened. but most of the e's i get w/ atchmnts have that icon that looks like it's a piece of something instead of a whole something. when you click ob it, the "choose a program to open" window pops up Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.dl mail, 2.look for the "no chance of finding out what this is" icon. Actual Results: don't get to find out Expected Results: i said to myself, "if it's not one thing it's another. if i can finally make this thing work, i can't get all my att.... wait, no. gotta stay positive. it's just another thing, no big deal..." then i gouged out my own eyes so i would never have an occasion to look upon my screen again. my seeing eye dog is transcribing this for me and i will need you to send your reply in braille or spoken word. it is enough
Look at the source, they probably have wrong content type (application/octet-stream). If so, basically the same as bug 453805.
this is gt again. i have more details. the emails don't come with unreadable attachments. it's that some emails turn into unreadable attachments as soon as i click on them, meaning they didn't have attchs when they were imported but that's what they became when i clicked on them, meaning i would click on the email that didn't have an attchm, and right then the little paperclip would appear and the email would be blank with an (unreadable)attchm icon at the bottom. some of the emails that this has happened to were from yahoo, gmail, the "failed delivery notification" emails, and whoever serves "easydailycash.com, server7.businessworldlist.com uses" let me know if this is just some sort of filter rule that i can turn off. thanks gt
magnus m. had said have them check the source. i will get emails from the same company with dif addrs that one does and the other doesn't mutate (if that makes a diff). i also doubt if all of those companies have faulty sources. they were coming through off of my webmail account. gt
Actually, i meant for *you* to do a View > Message Source of the received mail. The find the attachment in that, and look at Content-Type:
Reporter wrote me (i think), the content-type was indeed application/octet-stream. I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug 453805.
