Build 2000071408, Linux 2.2.14 i686, RedHat 6.1
When trying to download a .gz file, I get as far as the dialog that
says "The file has mime type application/gzip which can't be viewed in
Mozilla..." I select "save to disk" and unselect "ask me next time",
then click OK. What this gets me is:
JavaScript error:
line 0: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8
0004001 (NS_ERROR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED) [nsIHelperAppLauncher.saveToDisk]" nsresult:
The relevant JavaScript code from
chrome/packages/widget-toolkit/global/content/helperAppLauncher.js is:
// If the user presses OK, we do as requested...
onOK : function () {
// Get boolean switch from checkbox.
var dontAskNextTime = !document.getElementById( "alwaysAskMe" ).checked;
if ( document.getElementById( "runApp" ).checked ) {
// SNIPPED
} else {
// *!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!
// This next line is 102, where the error happens
this.appLauncher.saveToDisk( null, dontAskNextTime );
}
window.close();
},

Actually, after clicking OK in the "This file mime type" dialog, I get the
filepicker dialog, and the JavaScript error happens when I click on the
OK button of the filepicker.
I'm passing this on to mscott.
There are two things going on, I suspect.
1. Something is going wrong down in the guts of the backend helperapplauncher
code, it seems (that's the NOT_IMPLEMENTED error that bubbles back up to the JS
code).
2. There is likely a deeper problem. The "old" stream transfer code had to
tweak the input http channel to turn off the automatic gzip decoding. I'm not
sure where/how that will happen with the new helper app support code. gagan
knows about this (he put the support in the http channel).

Is this still a problem for anyone? I know I fixed the JS exception. Not sure
what the current status is for the .gz decoding stuff..
future per triage meeting.

i'm no longer seeing this, using 2000.08.25.08 comm bits on linux.
steps i took:
1. went to http://www.mozilla.org, scrolled down to the nightly build section.
2. clicked on the i386 Linux link.
3. Unknown File Type dialog appears, i click Save File...
4. file picker appears, cd into an appropriate directory.
5. click OK in file picker, which goes away as well as the Unknown File Type
dialog.
6. Saving progress dialog appears (filename and path displayed are incomplete
--am trying to find that bug, coulda swore i saw it...blatherblather).
result: downloading of the file completes as expected. here's the console output
for this procedure, fyi:
WEBSHELL+ = 4

WEBSHELL+ = 6
