I've saved an attachment file to my disk which is windows mounted disk.
When I've opened a directory within Nautulis, I've noticed that the file gets additional extension .bin (confirmed by listing files within an xterm). It leads to problem when I try to open the file by doubleclick.
During the saving an attachment process Thunderbird keeps reporting the correct file name.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Doubleclick on an attached file icon.
2. Choose a directory for saving the file somewhere on a windows mounted disk.
3. Check the file, it got an additional extension .bin .
Actual Results:  
The file gets an additional extension .bin .

Expected Results:  
The filename is not changed.

A small change now, an rtf file gets the further .rtf extension now.
