When you click on a link to Steam at Firefox, it shows an error message that says it can recognizes the Steam protocol, but it works in Windows. Steam is a only Windows program, but you can install it in Linux with Wine (http://winehq.org/) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. download and install Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/about/) in Linux with Wine (http://winehq.org) 2. Go to http://store.steampowered.com/app/240/ or another page in steampowered.com in the shop area. 3. Click on "Purchase 4. Say that you have Steam already installed. Actual Results: Firefox shows an error message that says it can't recognize the Steam protocol Expected Results: Firefox should show a window asking the program you like to use (like it does in Windows) and open Steam if it insn't already opened
Firefox doesn't ask which program it should open if it recognize an external protocol that isn't registered in the windows registry. If you install this application in windows, it will itself register as Protocol-handler, the same is true for OS X. You can also register applications t on Linux you must add it manually http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/The+protocol+is+not+associated+with+any+program
Ok, thanks ;D

something got lost in my comment : You can also register applications on windows and OS X through OS dialogs. There is another open bug about using gnome-gpio (?) for such things on linux
