The user chose in Copies & Folders not to save a copy of sent messages 2. Or the user chose in Copies & Folders to save a copy of sent messages on a different folder. 3. Or the "Sent Mail" folder was unsubscribed from Thunderbird Even when Thunderbird is closed, the "Sent Mail" is removed through another IMAP client (or webmail interface), as soon as Thunderbird is started the "Sent Mail" folder is created again. Reproducible: Always
Version: unspecified → Trunk
workaround for case #3 + the rest of your description might be to delete panacea.dat from profile folder and restart other parts of this are duplicate of existing bugs I think - does this fail for you also in TB version 2?

TB2 not creating folder sent until you send first email. At least 2.0.0.12 doesn't do so.
Component: General → Networking: IMAP
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core

Version: Trunk → 1.9.1 Branch
TB3 not creating any folder, and if it make so folder name will be just "Sent".

Or the "Sent Mail" folder was unsubscribed from Thunderbird Were you using the "Sent Mail" folder as folder to save a copy of sent message before above operations? If yes, Bug 100239 is probably root cause. - Due to Bug 100239, indicator of "Sent folder" is not removed from previously used folder for sent by above operations until restart of Tb. (This is one of reasons why icon is not changed until restart.) - Upon restart of Tb, the "Sent Mail" is still sent folder, then creation of "Sent Mail" is requested to IMAP server at early stage of restart. You need to do next procedure to remove folder which was used as sent folder. 1. Change "Sent Mail" to ordinal folder by removing pointer to "Sent Mail" from Copies&Folders setting of all identities. If you want to set "Copies&Folders not to save a copy of sent messages", you have to change pointer to folder before change to "Copies&Folders not to save a copy of sent messages". "Delete" doesn't exist in context menu of "Sent Mail" at this step. 2. Restart Tb, and confirm that icon of "Sent Mail" is ordinal icon. "Delete" appears in context menu of "Sent Mail" at this step. 3. Execute delete, unsubscribe etc. for "Sent Mail" if required. Joao Fraga(bug opener), can you reproduce your problem even after above procedure?
WADA, I haven't been able to reproduce the problem in the last versions of Thunderbird. Sorry for taking so long to report back.
