but filing bookmarks in general works and they don't disappear after a restart ?
And you don't use Norton 360 ?

Nope. Plain vanilla system. Windows XP, Norton anti-virus, and that's about it. I run PCTools Spyware Doctor and Registry Mechanic periodically, but not automatically. Still, the Unorganized Bookmarks are simply not displayed.

Have some new information. I've discovered that I've got 10 empty bookmarks. Although they display a title, when you check the properties, you get a window with 6/7 blank fields: Name, Location, Feed Location, Site Location, Keyword, Description. The seventh field is a displayed is a folder labeled Create In. None of these fields can be edited/saved, nor can the bookmarks be deleted. Four of the empty bookmarks are contained in folders. The folders can't be deleted either.
My suspicion is that these are damaged sqlite records, but I have no way of verifying that.

Reporter, please retest with Firefox 3.6.12 or later in a fresh profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). Also update your plugins (flash, adobe reader, java, quicktime, silverlight, etc.) Go to the developer's website and download the latest version from there. If you no longer see this issue, please close this bug as RESOLVED, WORKSFORME. If you do see the bug, please post a comment.

All plug-ins and programs are up to date. Apparently some bookmark entries got damaged. Effect was that they could not be removed nor edited. They prevented normal "Organize Bookmarks" from displaying and therefore being edited.

There is nothing really specific here, this is a broken profile, you should just create a new profile and import bookmarks into it.
A corruption coming from 3.0 is hardly manageable today, we could not figure out what went wrong nor find steps to reproduce the behavior.
Please contact support (http://support.mozilla.com/) to get help in making a new profile if you still suffer this problem.
