User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:126.96.36.199) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1 Build Identifier: Thunderbird V188.8.131.52 While accepting a recent update (Sept 26) my system locked up and I had to manually close down. Since then I have not been able to start up Thunderbird. I would appreciate help to either get the application working again or to locate and save all stored emails (157 files,24 folders) and address book so that I can uninstall the old version and reinstall the latest one. The Thunderbird program shows up on the list of Program files in Windows Explorer but cannot be opened using the shortcut or from Explorer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Bugzilla is not for help or support. Please use http://support.mozilla.com instead. Uninstalling Thunderbird will not delete the Profile(mails) but a backup of the whole profile can not be bad and should be done before doing anything else. links: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Thunderbird marking invalid as support request.

I appreciate your prompt reply, however I have a serious system problem. I cannot remove the program using the 'add/remove' facility in Windows XP Professional. Neither can I delete the program through Windows Explorer (the process terminates with an error message 'cannot delete mmozMapi32.dll') I cannot open the program in 'safe mode'. When I enter the command "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -safe-mode" and select 'OK' the window disappears and returns me to the desktop. Please help. Ian
That is no system problem. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_2.0_installation_issues (Logitech quickcam version). If you don't have the logitech quickcam software install Thunderbird in the windows safemode again.
