Browsing history will not clear. After clear is requested, history still shows up when typing a URL. These sites that pop up in the list are NOT in my bookmarks. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Click Tools, choose Clear Private Data
2.Restart FF
3.Start typing URL and history appears
Actual Results:  
Browsing history showed up

Expected Results:  
No history should show up at all

Can you run Firefox in safemode and tell me if the problem persists? http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode

I don't understand comment 2, I doubt the reporter does. He's already said they weren't bookmarks and didn't have stars.

Erik: are you a recent user of Firefox 3, or were you also a beta user? I ran into a similar problem where it turned out the items showing up were former bookmarks semi-lost in a corruption of my "places" database. What worked for me was to

1) backup my bookmarks to a safe place
2) quit Firefox
3) delete places.sqlite (actually I moved it, so we could examine the problem)
4) restart Firefox
5) restore your saved bookmarks.

If you were not a beta user then we may have a new way of corrupting places.sqlite files :-(  We might need to look at your file so don't destroy it for now. Also please do NOT attach it to this bug since it'll be far far too large, just hold on to it while we find out if the places developers need to see it.

Daniel, what I wanted is to know if this was a dupe of Bug 446875, or if the issue was different.

As I understand bug 446875 that issue was "location bar shows bookmarks". The reporter of this bug has been pretty clear from the beginning that the sites showing up here are not bookmarked.

No answer to comment 6, though, so this bug may yet be headed for RESOLVED INCOMPLETE :-(
