Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092414 Firefox/3.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092414 Firefox/3.0.3 It started with about half of the bookmarks being gone, but now there are none left. "bookmarks.html" is fine, but they don't show up in Firefox. I tried importing them again, but now all I have is a bunch of empty folders with no bookmarks in them. The bookmarks I added to the toolbar are still in the toolbar (I imagine they'll disappear again when I quit), but they cannot be accessed from the menu or from "organize bookmarks." Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Add bookmarks (for me - I'm sure this is not a problem on every machine.)
Reporter, Has reading that article solved your problem?
Sorry for taking so long to get back. I have deleted places.sqlite and I think the problem may be over, though I was not able to recover the bookmarks from the past several weeks. Thanks for your help.

Well, the problem is back. I don't really know what's going on, but the same thing has happened again over the last couple of days. I can't even give the appearance of adding new bookmarks this time - when I choose "Bookmark This Page," nothing happens.
Can you trace this to anything you have have changed, added or removed in the past few days? Try starting in a new profile, then add bookmarks from that. Also, try comment #1 again.
