Actual Results: blanked out email and the little paperclip icon as well as the unopenable attachment icon suddenly appear. Expected Results: a readable email all in the comments of above ref
This has been observed with McAfee spam filter activated. It rewrites a plain-text message without MIME headings in a way that adds an empty entry for "Content-Type:", which causes Thunderbird to treat it as a message with unknown (i.e., potentially not displayable) content. Thus, you see the message as an attachment. You can verify with View > Message Source if this is the case. Switching off spam filtering in McAfee resolved that issue. There are several threads in http://forums.mozillazine.org/ on this with instructions. If the problem persists, please attach an affected message to this report.
