User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:18.104.22.168) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 Build Identifier: version 22.214.171.124 (20080914) I have an IMAP account. Several of the folders are set to automatically check for new messages. I do *not* store the password for this account. When Thunderbird starts up, it prompts me for the password for this account. I press Cancel since I don't want to read that account at the moment. The password prompt then re-appears, once for each folder with "check for new messages" enabled. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create IMAP account with several folders 2. Apply "Automatically check for new messages" to some of the folders 3. Do not store the password for this account 4. Start Thunderbird 5. When prompted for the new account's password, press Cancel. Actual Results: The password prompt appears once for each folder. Expected Results: The password prompt should only appear once. Selecting Cancel means "I am not interested in reading this account just now". Thunderbird should not bother me with the same password prompt several times in a row.
A related issue: If you do save your password and for whatever reason your authentication is rejected, you will get multiple password prompts. Clicking 'cancel' on all of them should retain your saved password, however after several dialogs appear suddenly the saved password field becomes blank (no ****), and the saved password is deleted. This is reproducible: 1. Create an IMAP account and save a working password as normal. Watch several folders to generate several password dialogs later 2. Change password on server so authentication fails 3. When password dialog appears, click cancel. 4. Repeat 3 a couple times and the password will become cleared when only clicking cancel
(In reply to comment #0) > Reproducible: Always > Steps to Reproduce: > 1. Create IMAP account with several folders > 2. Apply "Automatically check for new messages" to some of the folders Sorry but I coulddn't find place to set '"Automatically check for new messages" to some of the folders'. I could find account wide "Check for new messages every NN minutes" setting in "Server Settings". How/where I can set it? Do you use add-on/extension? If yes, problem can be reproduced with "-safe-mode of Tb" or with "new profile/new account definition from scratch"?
(In reply to comment #2) > Sorry but I coulddn't find place to set '"Automatically check for new messages" > to some of the folders'. Right-click on the folder. Select "Properties". In the "General Information" tab, there is a checkbox for "Check this folder for new messages".
I saw properties of Inbox folder... Sorry for my silly question. > Actual Results: > The password prompt appears once for each folder. This behaviour is already improved by Tb Trunk. Check with latest-trunk before open bug, please. > http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-trunk/
Confirming, because I can observe phenomenon with Tb 2. To Graham Borland(bug opener): Please close with WORKSFORME, if you can't reproduce problem with Tb latest-trunk build. (I don't know patch resolved the problem.)

Ever confirmed: true
Starting up the nightly build from 2009-02-09 I was only prompted for the password once, even after pressing cancel.
